30-Minute Painter Study

We had to do an activity the other day in our painter class where she only gave us small amounts of time for different elements in the photo, ie. background, secondary elements, etc. It was great to stretch ourselves to accomplish that. Without further ado, I present my 30-Minute Study!

A few from Blair's session...

For more, please go to "Baseman Studios" on Facebook..

Just a side note, a few of these I haven't done anything with besides process from the RAW image... I didn't feel like fixing the glass glare. :)

A little window light..

A while back, I drug Joel to school one day when he wasn't working to shoot a window light assignment... he was real impressed, but did give some good smiles.

Laney, Part 2

Here's the ones with the red dress... and after a while, Tyler wanted part of the action too. He joined Laney for a bit. This was a great learning experience for me, as I'd never photographed children this young. I must say, they were great for putting up with me and helping me to gain some experience!

Laney, Part 1!

I had a great session earlier this week with Laney, and eventually Tyler! Laney wasn't in the greatest of moods, but we managed to get some good smiles along with the scowls. :)

Here are some from the pink outfit!

Portrait class today..

In our portrait class, we draw slips out of a can to determine who's going to be the subject, who's going to be the photographer, and what head tilt/face poses/body poses to do. And then only take one shot to get it. So this was today's photo, and it was actually my third shot. :)

Executive Portraits!

These were for some of my "executive" assignments.

These first two are of one of our ministers currently in the Waterloo area, Bruce. The assignment was to take an "executive" into the studio and by using props, etc. tell what they do.

This last one is of Karl, head of the residential division at Baseman Floors, which just so happens to be Joel's father's company. I was going to use Joel's dad for this, but he was out of town. This assignment included taking lights on location and using drag shutter to capture ambient light as well. This went really well, considering complete set-up to finished took me only 40 minutes! I love that stair case in their show room/office... that's pretty much the spot where Joel proposed to me also. :)

Kayti and Derreck.. the dark side

Part two!

They were great to work with and it was nice to catch up a little.. seeing as Kayti and I graduated high school together. :)

This pose obviously wasn't working, but they had fun with it!

I love this one!

Would you ever guess that they aren't a real couple?

WPPA, Delaney

This last weekend I attended WPPA, Wisconsin's Professional Photography Association.

I had a great time, learned a few more things, and appreciated getting to know some of the professionals I'll be rubbing shoulders with in the future.

I'm still throwing around the idea of having a retouching business. In construction terms, I want to be a subcontractor, basically working by 6-/12-month contract. This would include FTPing files to do work at my business computer, or even traveling to studios to help with workflow and editing there on-site. All of this would be done by contract and the price list would have a base per-hour price that I could then translate into a per-image fee for the clients.

Post some comments and let me know what you think! :)

And, just for fun, here's some photos of Delaney, a fellow student, for one of my assignments. For the whole session, click here. You will need to sign into Facebook to see this album.
